Code of Conduct for Young People

Clare Cascaders Basketball Club wishes to provide the best possible environment for all young people involved in the sport. Young people deserve to be given enjoyable, safe sporting opportunities, free of abuse of any kind. These participants have rights, which must be respected, and responsibilities that they must accept. Young people have responsibilities to treat other participants and sports leaders with fairness and respect.
 
Young people are entitled to:
• Be treated with dignity and respect
• Experience competition at a level at which they feel comfortable
• Be safe and feel safe
• Say No
• Get help against bullies
• Be listened to, and be believed
• Protect their bodies
• Have fun and enjoy basketball
• Confidentiality
• Refuse inappropriate touches
• Participate on an equal basis
 
Young players should always:
• Treat sports Coaches/Leaders and Officials with respect
• Play fairly at all times and do their best
• Respect team members, even when things go wrong
• Respect opponents. Shake hands at end of matches
• Abide by the rules set down by Coaches/Leaders when travelling to away events
• Behave in a manner that avoids bringing Clare Cascaders Basketball into disrepute
• Talk to the Child Officer if they have any problems

Young players should never:
• Use bad language, harm team members, opponents or their property
• Take property belonging to the club, learn mates or opponents without asking
• Shout or argue with officials, team mates or opponents
• Bully or use bullying tactics to isolate another player
• Tell lies about adults or young people or cheat
• Keep secrets, especially if they have been caused harm
• Take banned substances
